Gilead, Bristol-Myers to Market HIV Drug and Medarex, Bristol-Myers Report Drug Data

(NASDAQ: GILD) said recently they have agreed to collaborate to commercialize the drug Atripla in Europe for the treatment of adults infected with HIV. If approved by the European Commission, Atripla would represent the first and only once-daily single-tablet regimen for HIV infection in the European Union. The companies expect the European Commission to issue its decision by the end of the year.
Celgene International Srl (NASDAQ: CELG) announced that clinical data from two ongoing REVLIMID studies in Relapsed/Refractory Aggressive Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL) were reported during the 49th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH). These studies demonstrate REVLIMID's activity in NHL and the need to further evaluate treatment in this critical area of blood disease. NHL is the most common form of blood cancer in the United States affecting nearly 500,000 people.
Biopharmaceutical company Medarex Inc. (NASDAQ: MEDX) and partner Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. said recently one of three studies evaluating cancer drug ipilimumab in patients with advanced melanoma failed to meet its main goal. Medarex's shares plummeted in after-hours trading. The companies did not report full data on the other two studies.
Aida Pharmaceuticals (OTCBB: AIDA) recently announced that the company's upcoming Rh-Apo2L cancer drug has been named as a "New and High-Tech Transforming Products of 2007" by the Shanghai New High Technology Service Centre ("SNHTSC"), a special government commercialization division led by the Shanghai Municipal Government. This designation will allow Rh-Apo2L to have preferential policies during the commercialization process after Aida completes China's State Food and Drug Administration ("SFDA") clinical testing of the product. The stated role of the SNHTSC, according to its website http://www.hitec.net.cn, is to be a clearinghouse that allows the Chinese government to evaluate and narrow down technology candidates that have the greatest potential for national and global commercialization.
