Franklin Resources (BEN) runs many kinds of mutual funds. But besides namesake Benjamin Franklin, it's most known for fixed-income funds, epitomized by its prized Templeton Global Bond Fund.
And like a lot of other asset managers, Franklin, operating as Franklin Templeton Investments, has seen a lot of new inflow into fixed income since the second half of 2009.
Even during turbulent 2008, "we held up relatively well and were able to take a lot of market share due to the flight to quality into bond funds," said Rick Frisbie, chief administrative officer.
The San Mateo, Calif.-based firm reports earnings for its first fiscal quarter on Thursday. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimate profit will nearly triple from the prior year to $1.47 a share.
