Staples Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) and Dell Inc. announced that starting Nov. 11, customers will be able to buy Dell products at 1,400 Staples stores. Dell says it will offer its notebook and desktop computers, monitors, printers, ink and toner at the Boston-based retailer. Staples will be the only office superstore to offer Dell products in stores and through its Web site, Dell says.
Online auctioneer eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY) spent almost $2 million lobbying various departments of the federal government in the past year, including an entity rarely named on federal disclosure forms: the Central Intelligence Agency. According to a database maintained by the Senate's public records office, eBay is one of eight groups and companies to lobby the spy agency.
Shares of Amazon.com Inc.(Nasdaq:AMZN) recently sank as some analysts expressed concerns about a third-quarter dip in the online retailer's gross margin and prospects for its margins expansion. Amazon shares declined $12.09, or 12 percent, to $88.73 Wednesday. In the past year, the shares have traded between $32.14 and $101.09. Amazon released quarterly earnings and revenue that came in ahead of analysts' expectations, but said its gross margin declined to 23.4 percent in the third quarter from 24.3 percent in the second.
