Sigma-Aldrich Chairman Sells Shares and Sangamo Cites Positive Stem Cell Data

The chairman of Sigma-Aldrich Corp., (NASDAQ: SIAL) which supplies chemicals to research laboratories, sold 10,000 shares of common stock, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. In a Form 4 filed recently with the SEC, David Harvey reported he sold the shares Friday for $50.50 apiece. Insiders file Form 4s with the SEC to report transactions in their companies' shares. Westlake Chemical Corporation (NYSE: WLK) announced recently it is enhancing the level of integration in its vinyls segment by expanding its chlor-alkali and PVC resin units and building a large diameter PVC pipe plant, all at the company's Calvert City, KY manufacturing complex. The expanded chlor-alkali unit will add 50,000 ECU's and bring the company's total capacity to 275,000 ECU's per year. The expansion will improve the vertical integration of Westlake's vinyls business from chlorine downstream into VCM and PVC and increase caustic soda sales once the expansion is completed by the second half of 2009.

DNA technology company Sangamo Biosciences Inc. (NASDAQ: SGMO) said recently data showing its technology could be used for gene modification was published in the journal Nature Biotechnology. The data showed the company's ZFN-mediated gene modification can be used to correct both mutations in the gene linked to immunodeficiency and as an addition to the genome of stem cells. The company is partnering with Sigma-Aldrich Corp. in developing the technology.

ALL Fuels & Energy Company (OTCBB: AFSE) recently advised that the Iowa Transportation Commission (ITC) has awarded the City of Manchester, IA, up to $306,000 for road improvements for AFSE's proposed 100 million gallon per year ethanol production facility. The ITC's grant is in addition to over $17 Million in infrastructure improvements, tax credits and tax abatements previously obtained by AFSE's Manchester Subsidiary from the City of Manchester and the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
