Kraft Expands Board to 11 Directors and Flowers Foods Q3 Profit Remains About $22 million

(NYSE: KFT) said recently it expanded its board to 11 members to include Lois Juliber, retired vice chairman and chief operating officer of Colgate-Palmolive Co., and Frank Zarb, managing director of private equity firm Hellman & Friedman LLC. The company now has 9 independent directors. Related to the board appointments, Kraft signed a "stand-still" agreement with Nelson Peltz's Trian Fund Management LP, which now agrees to support the board's full list of nominees at Kraft's next two annual meetings.
Food maker TreeHouse Foods Inc. (NYSE: THS) said recently its third-quarter profit rose 28 percent, helped by the integration of acquired businesses and higher selling prices. The company reported income of $10.6 million, or 34 cents per share, compared with $8.3 million, or 26 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 8 percent to $272 million from $251.7 million in the third quarter of 2006.
Flowers Foods Inc.'s (NYSE: FLO) revenue rose in the third quarter, but its net income was basically flat. The Thomasville, Ga.-based baked goods company had net income of $22.5 million on $475.2 million in sales, compared with net income of $22.6 million on $441.1 million in sales in the third quarter of 2006. Net income for the third quarter of 2006 included a $5.5 million tax benefit reported in discontinued operations.
NutraCea (OTCBB: NTRZ), a health science company and a world leader in stabilized rice bran (SRB), announced recently that the construction of its Southern Louisiana facility at Lake Charles is on track to be completed and commissioned by the end of March 2008.
